Pants Hangers Materials

Pants hangers can be produced with different materials making it really easy for people to create. Some of the more common ingredients used in the creation of hangers include plastic, wood and metal wires. For the skin or the padding for the pants hangers, there are also several materials that can be used including satin or velvet which is easier to react with the type of pants that are usually hanged on the hanger.

Just like other clothes hangers, pants hangers also follow several types or designs:

  1. Wire Hangers – wire hangers are made of 100% metal wires from the hook all the way to the body. All wire type pants hangers follow the traditional triangular look.
  2. Wooden Hangers – these pants hangers are made of flat wooden materials and instead of using the triangular design follows a boomerang shape to better accommodate clothes. The hook part though can either be made of wood or metal wires.
  3. Plastic Hangers – plastic hangers is the most common and cheapest type of pants hangers available in the market today. Made from strong plastic resin, the plastic hangers of today can follow both the triangular or the boomerang design and can carry twice as much pants per hanger than either of the first two.

History of Pants Hangers

3 pants hangersWhile there might be a million different types of pants hangers in the market today, the very first hangers which are also considered as coat hangers or clothes hangers in some parts of the world, was believed to be been invented by United States President Thomas Jefferson who used to have wooden clothes and pants hangers in his home.

While not exactly the same as the appearance of the ones used in the Jefferson residence the most notable and common pants hangers were officially invented and documented by O.A. North in 1896.

Another fellow who has been given credit for the creation is Albert J. Parkhouse together with Christopher Cann in 1876. It was only in 1906 however when retailers started selling these hangers and placing it on display in their stores. This trend started with Men’s Clothier Meyer May from Grand Rapids, Michigan.

No matter what type of hanger you choose, you should always remember though that there is a specific amount of weight that a pants hanger can carry. Don’t stick too many pants into each hanger especially in cases where you plan to hang the pants hangers on the passenger seat of your car.
